Allegheny Conference, Pittsburgh Regional Building Trades Council join Energy Future PA

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Energy Future PA today welcomed the Allegheny Conference on Community Development and the Pittsburgh Regional Building and Construction Trades Council as its newest members – bringing the coalition’s total membership to 10 organizations across Pennsylvania.

“Pennsylvania’s energy future requires all voices to be at the table – including business and industry alongside organized labor,” said former U.S. Congressman Conor Lamb, who serves as co-chair of Energy Future PA. “The Allegheny Conference brings the voice of the Pittsburgh region’s business community and economic development stakeholders to the state’s energy conversation, while the Pittsburgh Regional Building Trades Council will continue to advocate for an energy future that prioritizes jobs for Pennsylvania workers.”

Energy Future PA is a nonpartisan coalition of independent organizations that supports a comprehensive suite of energy solutions to help meet the nation’s future energy needs and bolster reliability of the nation’s power grid – including renewables and low-to-zero-carbon fuel sources such as clean hydrogennuclear energy, and carbon capture and storage technologies.

The Allegheny Conference is one of Pennsylvania’s largest civic leadership organizations, focused on improving the economic future and the quality of life of the 10-county Pittsburgh region. It is the parent organization of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, Pennsylvania Economy League of Greater Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, which together work to identify solutions to economic competitiveness challenges across the region.

“The Pittsburgh Region has long been a leader in energy production, helping to forge the dramatic economic progress that our nation has experienced over the last 150 years,” said Allegheny Conference CEO Stefani Pashman. “Now, we need to build new energy capacity to ensure our future power supply is reliable, clean and affordable for Pennsylvania consumers and businesses. That’s how we will grow our economy. And it’s why we are proud to be members of Energy Future PA.”

The Allegheny Conference joins the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia and the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry as voices for business and industry in Energy Future PA. But the coalition also includes organized labor among its membership.

The Pittsburgh Regional Building Trades Council joins Pennsylvania State Building and Construction Trades Council, IBEW Local 654 and Steamfitters Local 420 as labor voices in the coalition.

“Pennsylvania’s energy dominance was fueled by Pennsylvania workers, and it will be Pennsylvania workers who continue to lead our energy future” said Gregory A. Bernarding, executive business manager for the Pittsburgh Regional Building Trades Council. “That’s why we are thrilled to join Energy Future PA. Because Pennsylvania workers power Pennsylvania’s economy, and our energy future must be proudly ‘made in PA.’”

The Allegheny Conference and Pittsburgh Regional Building Trades Council are just the latest additions to Energy Future PA’s growing roster of members. Founded in late 2022, the coalition boasts members representing environmental advocacy, labor, business and industry, and higher education. The following are the current members of Energy Future PA:

  • Allegheny Conference on Community Development
  • Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia
  • Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry
  • IBEW Local 654
  • PDC Machines
  • Pennsylvania Environmental Council
  • Pennsylvania State Building and Construction Trades Council
  • Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences
  • Pittsburgh Regional Building and Construction Trades Council
  • Steamfitters Local 420

Members of the coalition operate independently – each with its own mission, goals and priorities. While members are united in supporting the mission of Energy Future PA, their participation in the coalition may or may not represent their endorsement of specific positions taken or statements made by the coalition.

“Pennsylvania’s energy future requires a comprehensive suite of solutions that place Pennsylvanians first – with workers, families, businesses and communities all benefiting from a new, innovation-driven economy,” said former Pennsylvania state Rep. Kate Harper, who co-chairs Energy Future PA with Lamb. “That’s why the voices of our partners, such as the Allegheny Conference and Pittsburgh Building Trades Council, are so important. Together, we can pave a better way forward that truly powers our economy and strengthens communities.”
